Local Law Enforcement
Approximately 50 cars have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Automobiles, walls and postal boxes were marked, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Law enforcement state they were notified late on Wednesday, when a resident observed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish liquid.
The liquid had been placed in the form of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Police then discovered multiple other vandalized vehicles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are banned in Germany under legislation banning the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police state preliminary tests indicate the liquid was probably human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no clue as to where it came from; investigators are presently not cognizant of any injuries in relation with the occurrence," they stated.
Local authorities announced they were working "to resolve the case" and have asked to the public for information.
An important political figure stated the attack made him stunned and had to be addressed rapidly.
"This event affects the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the far-right attack five years ago," he posted on online, referring to the murder of nine victims by a assailant focusing on individuals of immigrant origin in February 2020.
